ABO Review : 'Bichagadu 2 `
By OM
`Bichagadu 2` is a blend of masala elements and time-tested ideas.
Story:
A business tycoon named Vijay Gurumoorthy (Vijay Antony) is surrounded by frauds. His company`s CEO, legal counsel, and his doctor are planning to take control of his mind through a miraculous brain replacement surgery. With the help of their networks, they chance upon Sathya (also played by Vijay Antony), an orphaned beggar whose brain and blood group match the requirement. Sathya`s brain gets transplanted and Vijay is now Sathya for all practical purposes. However, the villains are confronted with an ethical and courageous Sathya, who doesn`t allow their evil plan to be executed.
Performances:
Vijay Antony is not someone who moves his muscles beyond a degree. He has evolved as a technician since the 2016 landmark film `Bichagadu`. However, as an actor, he has remained the stoic performer he was in the previous decade. Kavya Thapar`s character doesn`t fit into the definition of a heroine. Had it not been for the glamorous song during the initial credits, she wouldn`t have registered as Hema. The `Ek Mini Katha` actress needs to improve a great deal.
Hareesh Peradi looks dangerous, but John Vijay only tries to look dangerous. Dev Gill of `Magadheera` fame is stuck in a time warp in terms of the portrayal of villainy; anybody can see that he is cheating his friend.
Technical Departments:
Music (songs): Ignore it!
Background Score: Impactful
Cinematography: Decent
Editing: Has issues but works overall.
Action: Stale and unambitious.
Analysis:
`Bichagadu 2` is hale and healthy at the box office. Its openings prove that the audience are subscribing to its content, speaking in general. The film is firm in terms of setting up the mood and narrating the stories of Vijay and Sathya in parallel. But the action scenes belong to the pre-Covid era. The courtroom episode is dull and unintentionally hilarious.
Plus:
1. The idea of a poor man stepping into the shoes of a multi-billionaire.
2. Building hype and hoopla around Sathya`s goal to see a hunger-free India.
3. Technical output.
4. The Bichagadu brand.
5. Sister sentiment despite an outmoded arc.
Minus:
1. Silly courtroom scene.
2. Ridiculous narrative against capitalists.
3. Villains who behave in a mindless fashion.
Overall Movie Rating: 2.75/5
Box-office Verdict:
Likely to become a Hit!
Ratings:
1 - Stay Away
2 - Poor
2.5 - So-So
3 - Watchable
3.5 - Good
4 - Very Good
4.5 - Outstanding
5 - Out of this World
