Detailed Movie Review : SRK's Chennai Express
By
Andhrudu
Shah Rukh Khan - The name doesn`t need any introduction. The Box Office Baadshah who is popularly called as SRK is still the one in overseas. But in recent years, he has fallen behind in comparison with other Khan Heroes in Domestic Boxoffice. After failing to live up to the expectations with several action & romantic flicks, SRK is back now trying his luck with a typical South Mass Masala in Chennai Express. Will SRK succeed this time?. Does Chennai Express has enough in it to be that Big Blockbuster SRK is waiting for?. Read on.
Story :
Rahul (SRK) is the Grandson of a famous Sweet shop owner who loses parents at a small age. An aimless wanderer with no work satisfaction, Rahul has to go to Rameshwaram to fulfill his Grandpa`s last wish. On his way, Rahul meets Meenamma ( Deepika ) in a Train. The twists & turns that follow in Rahul`s life forms the rest.
Performances:
SRK has excelled in all aspects. Be it Comedy, Sentiment, Action or Emotion, he really did well and it is a feast to all of his fans. He looks young, energetic & most importantly changed himself according to the demands of the character.
Deepika is another asset for this movie. She seems to have worked hard on her Tamil accent.
Popular Tamil actor Sathyaraj has a limited role which lacks the power one expects from such roles. New villain Nitin Dheer is poor and his Tamil is worse. Rest of others are mostly Tamil Junior artists.
Technical Departments
Music
: Vishal – Shekar`s songs are catchy and also well shot. BGM was perfect to the mood and adequate.
Cinematography
: Visually rich film barring some disturbances in round shots. The color combinations are also apt.
Editing
: Some unnecessary lag in the middle of first half and middle of
second . Overall okay.
Stunts
: Although there is only one fight in the film it was well shot and is very central to the film. Heroism & Climax Tempo are highly elevated due to this. The Chase sequence is a silly one like all Rohit Shetty starers.
Story,Screenplay & Direction
:
Nothing much to talk about Subhash`s story. Yunesh`s screen-play is ordinary and predictable. The high amount of south flavor means, South Indian audience will easily predict what is gonna happen next. May be Regular Hindi audience will like it more. The 1st half of the film is ordinary until pre-interval. The film picks up form then and loses some steam in middle of 2nd half and ends well with Good climax. The film has many scenes copied from several South Blockbusters.
Good Scenes & Moments
First Half
1. DDLJ style Deepika entrance and non stop comedy from there for
another 20mins
2.Communicating with Hindi Songs tunes. ( so that villains don`t understand)
3.`Okkadu` Scene and following Chase
Second half
1.Deepika Childhood problem scene
2.Temple Scene and following emotional scene
3.Another Hindi songs tunes scene (with a punch)
4.
Sharuk Realising his Love
5.Pre Climax SRK emotional dialogues with Sathyaraj (even
though similar to DDLJ)
Verdict: 3.25 / 5
The film is an entirely new experience to SRK although a routine mass masala. It is an all mix of Popular elements from North & South. Considering the EID festive advantage and no competition, Chennai Express will definitely collect more than it deserves for its content. But it remains to be seen whether it can become the Top Grosser as repeat audience are a must to achieve the feat. As the name goes by, Content wise CE is neither a Super-fast nor a Passenger its just an Express, a Paisa Vasool Entertainer
Bottom Line:
This Bollywood version of SUDIGADU/TAMIZHAPADAM will work Big Time.
