ABO Review: Thoongavanam

`Thoongavanam`, is A Passable, Dark Thriller based on Narcotics & Kidnap.

Story :

The Son of a Narcotics Department Cop (Kamal Haasan) gets Kidnapped. The cop now has to return his Prized Catch of a Big Bag of Cocaine back to the City Kingpin who runs A Big Pub cum Club. Things start getting messy when his colleagues also start chasing him. All in a Single Night.

Analysis :

Thoongavanam Stays true to its script right from the word go. It is a Dark Thriller which appeals in Parts owing to Stylish Presentation from the Debutant Director. 1st Half of the flick is comparatively better considering 2nd half drags on and on, being thin on story and relying mostly on narration. This is a definitely Decent film to watch if you are okay with its subject. Kamal Fans shouldn`t miss out on this meaningful thriller.

Performances :

Kamal Haasan excels as a Cop( kind of) as well as an Emotional Father. Prakash Raj did exceeding well. Trisha is good for a change in a meaningful role. Sampath, Kishore, Asha Sharath and others are more than adequate.

Technical Details:

Slick Editing and Pretty Good Background Score have been a plus. There are no Songs on-screen, Camera work is fine and Stunts are adequate& realistic.

Plus :

1. Direction.

2. Performances.

Minus :

1. Dragged Narration due to Wafer Thin Story Line.

2. Limited Appeal.

Overall Movie Rating : 3/5

BoxOffice Verdict :

The film has scope to do Decent business in `A` Centres.
