ABO Review : `Ooru Peru Bhairavakona`
Review: Ooru Peru Bhairavakona
Headline: Rajappa Gaari Gadhi.
Story:
Basava (Sundeep Kishan) is a stunt double for Telugu films. He burgles a wedding and steals jewelry worth many lakhs. He and his partner in crime, John (Viva Harsha), bump into an accident victim named Geetha (Kavya Thapar) as they run away from the wedding venue. On their way, the trio enter a forbidden village named Bhairavakona, where a ghost is seething with anger. There is no way out of this village for Basava.
What is the mystery surrounding Bhairavakona? How does a young girl named Bhoomi (Varsha Bollamma) influenced all this? What connection does the duo have with the village? That`s what the second half is about.
Performances:
Sundeep Kishan is decent. Although he speaks less, he tries to emote otherwise. He looks vulnerable where he is supposed to be. The second most important character is played by Varsha Bollamma, who is inconsistent but is adequate, nevertheless.
Viva Harsha and Vennela Kishore draw some laughs. Kavya Thapar of the recent `Eagle` fame is wasted. Rajappa Ravi Shankar`s characterization works to an extent, although his performance is over-the-top. Vadivukkarasi as Pedamma is effective. Jayaprakash, Chammak Chandra, Brahmaji, Duvvasi Mohan and others are also seen.
Technical Departments:
1. Music (Songs): Shekar Chandra`s songs are respectable.
2. Background Music: Dated.
3. VFX: The quality is Ordinary considering their costs.
4. Cinematography: Ordinary.
Analysis:
Vi Anand`s visualization of Bhairavakona is generic, looking like a hamlet where the troubled souls are undergoing treatment. The village should have been imagined in a better way.
The presence of too many plot points is a letdown. While the situational comedy worked, the characters don`t garner the undivided attention of the viewer. The interval twist worked well and saved the 1st half. With no compelling reasoning or charged up emotions, 2nd half falls flat ending this one as an ordinary affair.
This film, purportedly made on a budget of Rs 25 crore, should have boasted of good-quality graphics. At a time when even horror comedies are expected to feature the best VFX, this supernatural fantasy adventure lacks appeal on the production front.
Plus Points
1. Comedy track involving Vennela Kishore in both the first and second halves. But the tracks don`t last long. They are like two small episodes.
2. The suspense about the village is built up well.
3. The song `Nijame Ne Chebutunna` sung by Sid Sriram.
4. The re-entry of Bhoomi sort of reignites our interest in the story.
Minus Points
1. The village has a weak production design.
2. Sundeep Kishan`s character doesn`t look motivated enough.
3. No emotional connect.
4. Lack of Proper Antagonists.
Movie Rating: 2.5/5
Box-office Verdict: May have to end as an average grosser at best.
