Highway is a road movie with brilliant visuals and hard realities. It is one of the most honest and original films ever made in Bollywood.
Story : Veera ( Alia ) is an young girl set for marriage in few days. One night when she`s out with her fiancée for a Highway car ride and some fresh air she gets kidnapped by Mahabir ( Randeep ) and gang. After realising that Veer is from a very influential family and the risk involved in staying put in a specific place, Mahabir decides to go on a journey in a truck. They travel from Delhi to various states. The film is all about the relationship of Veer and Mahabir that ensues in the journey. Its about How Veer is still in trauma about a bad incident happened in childhood and the life of a gril from a high society protective family.
Analysis : The film has some stunningly beautiful visuals, excellent music and a heart wrenching story. Imtiaj Ali has completely gone different from his earlier films which are more of Rom-Com`s in nature. Highway is an emotional experience. It is an intense drama with hard realities. The film is not for the folks who expect times pass and paisa vasool stuff. It is a film which needs to be felt and to be seen involved. So please keep that in mind before heading to watch.
Performances : Alia Bhatt is extraordinary in the film. It is simply mind blowing performance of a confused, feel good but traumatised character. It is very hard one to portray and she being a 2nd film actress did exceptionally well. Her smile, cuteness & suffering - One will feel every thing on screen. Randip Hooda as the serious Kidnapper has done a perfect job. The chemistry of Alia and Randip is surprisingly good and No, its nothing romantic. The rest are more than adequate.
Music : Songs are superb on screen too. BGM is soul stirring and apt.
Camera : Excellent.
Direction : Good.
Plus : Visuals, Music & Performances.
Minus : Unconventional.
Overall Movie Rating : 4 / 5 ( Must Watch for Serious Movie Buffs )
