`Kaala` is a Passable Political Gangster Drama.  

Story :

Kaala (Rajnikanth) is a Very Popular Gangster/Leader in  Dharavi (Mumbai) where Politicians and Real-estate Lobby are planning Big Commercial Projects by vacating the slums. How he fights for his people against heavy odds forms the rest. 

Performances:

Rajni rocks the screen with his larger than life screen presence. Nana proves to be a worthy opponent and is damn good. Eeshwari is a little over the top. Huma makes limited impact. Anjali Patil, Samuthirakani, Ravi Kale, Sampath and others are adequate.

Music: Decent.

Action: Good.

Cinematography: Good.

Editing: Adequate.

Analysis : 

 

Kaala works in parts and has a few good episodes to take you through to the end. The film which is full of leftist ideology and social elements is otherwise underwhelming for its major duration. The duals between Rajni and his opponents are the backbone of the film and not its decade old storyline or unexciting screenplay. Kaala is a passable affair thanks to Rajni and you probably won`t miss much by skipping this if you aren`t his fan.
