ABO Review : 'Cheliyaa'

`Cheliyaa` is a Disappointing Romantic Drama from Maniratnam.

Story :

It is the Romantic saga of an Arrogant Air Force Officer (Fighter Pilot) Varun (Karthi) and a Modern yet Sensitive & Stubborn Doctor Leela (Aditi). It is all about the Ups and Downs of their Relationship, the Eventual Heart break and how it all ends.

Performances:

Karthi and Aditi have done very well. Karthi has gone through a complete makeover and Aditi is gorgeous. They have put in a lot of effort and it is a commendable job from both the leads.

Technical Departments:

Music: AR Rahman`s Tunes are ordinary and Background Score is adequate.

Cinematography: Outstanding Work by Ravi Varman.

Editing: Okay.

Action: Adequate.

Analysis :

Cheliyaa is a film which neither appeals to critics nor satisfies the paying public. The film starts off well with beautiful visuals and hints of a potentially touching romantic tale. But the promise wanes off as the film progresses into the 2nd half with the proceedings taking strange turns and characters starting to behave weirdly. The Romance in the 2nd half disappoints, testing the patience of the common audience. On the positive side, it has great visuals backed up by Picturesque Kashmiri locations. All the Initial Magic and Hard work goes in vain with the Original Screen-play far from appealing. It is a poor film for Maniratnam`s Standards and is a So-so one in general. In the end, Maniratnam and AR Rahman`s Uninspiring Writing and Music prevailed over the Career Best efforts of the Main Leads and Ravi Varman.
